Ingress Protection Rating
Ingress Protection (IP) as it relates to sealing against the entry of solid and liquid objects. Complete details of this standard can be obtained from the IEC. This uniform and widely acknowledged classification system provides equipment designers and specifying agents with a convenient and reliable method of comparing relative levels of sealing between competing (connector) products. In its simplest form, the classification system consists of the letters "IP" followed by two separate digits, which denote increasingly greater sealing from solid objects and from water.
The 20.1" Weatherproof Digital LCD Monitor has a rating of IP56. The number '5' refers to the degree of protection against access to hazardous parts and ingress of solid objects. 5 is the second highest protection, described as "dust does not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with satisfactory operation of equipment". The number '6' refers to the degree of protection against the ingress of water, 6 is third to highest level of protection, described as, "Water from heavy seas or projected in powerful jets shall not enter the enclosure in harmful quantities."
